SVG Bundle Overview

What is an SVG?

There are two types of digital graphics files – vector and raster. Vector images are made of lines and curves (or paths) to create an image. Raster images are composed of a series of unconnected dots. Vector designs are different from raster designs because the detail and quality does not change based on whether you increase or decrease the image in size. Silhouette machines are designed to read and follow vector lines.

An SVG (scalable vector graphics) file is a widely utilized vector file type. All images available on the Silhouette Design Store are available in a proprietary vector file type, .studio3, and a limited selection is also available in the SVG file type. Designs available with the SVG bundle option will include a .studio3 file, as normal, as well as the option to download and use an SVG copy of the design. The included .studio3 file can be used in all versions of Silhouette Studio®. However the additional SVG copy can only be used in upgraded versions of Silhouette Studio (i.e. Designer, Designer+, Business editions).

As a proprietary file format, .studio3 can only be used by the Silhouette Studio software. As an open file format, SVG files may be utilized in a wide variety of crafting and designing software.

How to Purchase and Download SVG content from the Silhouette Design Store

Please follow the steps below to purchase and download the SVG bundle of your preferred design:

  1. Open Silhouette Studio® and click Store or, through a web browser, visit our website home page
  2. Log in to your user account
  3. Locate and click on your design of choice to see the Design Details page
  4. On this page, be sure you select the SVG Bundle checkbox.
    • Note: The price will increase once checked
  5. Click Add to Cart
    • Continue creating your order and checkout as usual through the shopping cart icon
  6. Once checkout is complete, click the option to View/Download Items
    • Alternatively, from any page in the store you may:
      1. Select [Your Name] in the upper right corner
      2. Select the My Account option
      3. Select My Download History
      4. Locate and select the desired order containing the design
  1. Check the box next to “Download SVG”
  2. Select “Download Now”
    • The file will download a compressed folder

How to upgrade a purchase to SVG

To upgrade your purchase to the SVG bundle, please follow the steps above to purchase as normal. The design of choice will say “I Own It” but you can disregard this. You will select the design and click the SVG bundle option. The price will increase and charge the difference for the bundle upgrade.

How to Download a Previously Purchased SVG

If you have purchased the SVG bundle for your design and would like to download the SVG file to your computer, please do the following:

  1. Open Silhouette Studio® and click Store or, through a web browser, visit our website home page
  2. Log in to your user account
  3. Select [Your Name] in the upper right corner
  4. Select the My Account option
  5. Select My Download History
  6. Locate and select the desired order containing the design
  7. Check the box next to “Download SVG”
  8. Select “Download Now”
    • The file will download a compressed folder
