File types Silhouette Studio® can cut

The Silhouette Studio® software has several file types that can be imported, or opened and used with your Silhouette machine. The various software upgrades available provide additional file types that can be imported.

Silhouette Studio® Basic Edition can utilize all Silhouette Digital Download files obtained from the Silhouette Design Store, as well as fonts installed on your computer in TTF and OTF format. In addition, the following files can be imported with cut lines STUDIO/STUDIO3 files, GSD/GST files, and DXF files.

The software can also import a variety of image file types (JPGPNGBMPGIF, and TIF files) and then Trace the image using an auto-trace function to create cut lines click here. Please note, however, that our company cannot guarantee the quality of results of images not created or offered from our company.

Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition allows for all the above file types as well as the ability to import SVG files and PDF files. If importing PDF, you can select to Import as Image, which will not include cut lines, or Import as Vector, which will perform an automatic trace creating cut lines.

Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition Plus adds the ability to open embroidery file types, such as PES, DST, EXP, JEF, and XXX.

Silhouette Studio® Business Edition adds the ability to open Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW native files, AI, EPS, and CDR.

The Silhouette Studio® software has several file types that can be exported, or saved from the software to your computer. The Business Edition software upgrade can also provide additional file types that can be exported.

Silhouette Studio® Basic Edition is capable of exporting (or saving) a file to your computer in a proprietary STUDIO file format (V3 or V2), as well as GSP.

Silhouette Studio® Business Edition, can export or save as SVG, PDF, and JPG file format. Silhouette Studio version 4.1 or higher is also required to access this ability. To update your software, please visit here.

To export a file to your computer:

  1. Open the Silhouette Studio® software
  2. Go to the File menu
  3. Go to Save As
  4. Select the Save to Hard Drive option
  5. Choose your file location and file name
